Birthday

It surprises me when I miss a day, but I know I was in a hurry to get out of the house yesterday.

But let's return to Monday. After work I went for a couple of beers with Joey before he left town. Nice conversation and some nachos next door. I told him that I didn't want to go to a retirement community like Sun City. He said what we needed to do was buy some acres out in the Hill Country. I said that wasn't workable because, as you age, you need to go to the doctor more and be able to not drive at night, etc. He said, no, hear me out! You get this property, you put a trailer at the back of it and have a couple of illegals live there that will drive you where you need to go and take care of you and cook for you. I said, but that is illegal! He said, No, you don't hire them, they just LIVE there... Pretty good idea!

I did go on to the east side afterward and enjoyed the band for a little while. It was so cold (for Austin) and everyone was enjoying that. The crowd was small though and that surprised me. I only stayed until after the break and then I came home to make pie.

And I made the best pie I've ever made. I didn't rush anything and used Honeycrisp apples (never even heard of them before) and it turned out really well. It was still too hot to eat when we went to bed so we didn't get a fresh piece, but I had some last night and it was delicious and held together really well... no juices going every which a way.

That was our birthday celebration for Mark's birthday - - on the night before. He opened cards and gifts and celebrated.

Yesterday, his birthday, I didn't even see him except asleep when I left. He worked way past 2 a.m. so I had gone to bed before he came home.

I did go to the new hospital and got the tour. It is a fabulous place. I was so proud. I cried, too, seeing a poor little baby in an incubator with his parents asleep on a pull out couch in the room. So many sick children...but I'm glad there is a wonderful facility to take care of them.

It was windy and sunny yesterday, but still cool. So nice.

Last night I worked late since Mark was working late. Didn't get a lot done, but some.

I called KK again on the way home and she finally talked to me and thanked me over and over for calling again. It was going to be my last call. I had about decided she didn't want to continue to be friend. But she did and we talked and she already started the new job. She cried. She doesn't want to be over there. Makes me sad to have her gone. I think our stuff is going to suck unless we get someone amazing in to do it and the young girl that was helping just doesn't have the chops to make this work, yet she doesn't know that yet.

Got home last night and called my sister back and we ended up talking over an hour and a half. Good to catch up with her and they are coming to see us Friday so we'll have the weekend together. One son coming on Saturday to race boats, but the other one may or may not, we'll see.

I watched the Bachelor last night. I have never seen the previous ten seasons of that show (seriously? I can't believe there have been ten...I guess they do more than one a year?). I am hooked this season. I love this guy! I see all of the problems with choosing a mate in this way, of course, but I just drool and enjoy the date along with the girls. I told Mark the other night it is "girl porn" and that is a good description. We don't see any of the harsh realities of dating at all or the worse harsh realities of a real relationship . . .we just get the fluff and the fun. I did feel sorry for the poor girl that really got her heart broken last night. So easy to build up a guard in the real world and never let it get this attached. In the real world you would never have these fantasy dates with a fabulous guy at all so you don't get your heart broken. Well, that sounded cynical.. I certainly had fabulous dates with a fabulous guy and I married him!

I'm already late for work today, but no Wednesday night commitment tonight for the first time since March. That's nice! I guess I could go to church. ha.
