Anniversary

March 1. Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. 48 years. Never thought they'd live this long (seriously!). Dad wanted to get married on February 29 but Mom (supposedly) heard that he'd made a bet with the airmen at the base that he'd get married in February and she didn't want him to win that bet. That's the old family story anyway. Dad was an airman at the Amarillo Air Force Base and Mom worked at the telephone company. They met at Sunday School. Mom had a "date" for church and they offered Dad a ride after church. As Mom's date walked around the car after closing her door for her, Daddy, in the back seat, asked Mom out. Fast worker. They were married within six months. Weirdest part about the relationship. A fortune teller in Big Spring (where Dad was from) had told Dad a couple of years earlier that when he met his future wife she'd be dressed really strangely. At that Sunday School class, Mom was in a skit where she had on a weird hat and dress.

I've got to try to find some used computer discs for Windows 98 and upgrade my computer. I have the cable modem but I'm not able to load the software just yet. Everything requires so many other steps.

Had a great burger last night. Their sign says Austin's Best Burger and I'd have to agree. It took forever to cook it though (at least thirty minutes) and they didn't have napkins! They offered a clean bar towel. Still, great burger. Big old honkin' hunk of meat and great bun. Hot hot hot. Okay, I'll tell you where it was, but, girls, I wouldn't recommend going there alone. You'll be the only woman in the place no matter what you do but you really should have a companion. It's Trophy's on South Austin (almost at Oltorf). I'm sure it isn't a "dangerous" place but I felt quite conspicuous. Not the kind of place I could drop in quietly for a beer at the bar on the way home from work (yeah, right, I do that so often!).

I am going to go search some of the white pages online and see if I can help my dad find an old Army buddy. Everytime we talk about the computer, Dennis Deck comes up. Daddy was in the service with him in Amarillo in the early 50s. He "knows" he is in Chattanooga because that's where he went home to in 1952 or so. Sure, and it phases Daddy not one bit that he doesn't live in Amarillo where he lived then. I'll take a stab at it and see if I can find a clue somewhere. Haven't ever looked for anyone online. Any suggestions?
